It’s the new year & if you’re anything like me, one of your goals for 2020 is creating a healthier lifestyle. Here are my top tips to keep me on track!
Whether you plan ahead for a whole week or just one day, having meals decided ahead of time lowers your risk of going off track, mindlessly snacking, or giving into temptations. Sticking to a plan is way easier than making decisions on the fly when your tired & hungry & just want a quick fix.
Cook your own food
Not only is cooking food at home more cost effective, but when you cook food at home, you have 100% control of the ingredients that you’re adding in. I’ve found that this typically leads to choosing healthier ingredients & more reasonable portion sizes than when eating out. You’d be surprised how many of your favorite restaurant dishes you can recreate at home with healthier & fresher ingredients!
Drink more water
You’ve heard this one a million times. I have to remind myself every day. DRINK. MORE. WATER. Most drinks are SO high in added sugar & they just keep you wanting more. Stick to water to avoid all of that extra junk + staying hydrated is so great for your body!
Use smaller goals to reach your bigger goals
Having goals is key, but sometimes the end goal can seem too grand & far away which can make it seem unobtainable. Celebrating the little victories along the way to achieving your goals will help keep you positive + motivated.
Consistency is key. This is the most important tip that I constantly remind myself of. Planning or expecting to be perfect 100% of the time isn’t realistic. Don’t be discouraged because you got off track – get right back on! It’s easy to get into the ‘all or nothing’ mindset, but getting back on track with your healthy habits will continue to benefit you in the long run!
