Summer is almost over and although I appreciate the warmth and happiness the season brings I am a Fall time girl through and through. That being said, I know how to appreciate a good thing before its gone and thats why I’m going to give you my best recommendations of what to do around Indy during Labor Day Weekend….AKA the last big bang of sunny season.
[First and Foremost]
GET ON THE WATER!
Personally, no place will ever come as close to my heart as Turkey Run State park when it comes to hiking, tubing, and kayaking; but after giving the White River a chance, I found myself having a fantastic time. Picture yourself relaxing in a tube (sporting your perfect bronze from Air-Tan), sunglasses on, drink in hand, floating down the river with a group of friends and/or family. River trips are perfect way to shake up a traditional Labor Day party because almost all ages can be involved and most places let you bring your canine friends along as well! My dog and I could live in a kayak. Some pro tips for river floats are as follows;
SUNSCREEN! – Always have an extra bottle and apply generously throughout the day. Remember that having an Air-Tan (or any sunless tan) does not protect your skin from UV Rays.
Dont bring glass! -help keep yourself, other floaters, and the environemt safe by leaving glass bottles at home. On that note…
Bring an extra bag for trash! – something that zips up is ideal in case of accidental tipping.
Waterproof Speakers! – you will not regret this and you can use it in the shower as well.
SNACKS SNACKS SNACKS – enough said.
Stay Hydrated! – water bottles are essential especially if you’re indulging in alcoholic beverages… you’ll be thanking yourself later.
Protect Your Feet – Investing in some cheap water shoes will make a HUGE difference in your trip. Flip flops get stuck in water, mud, and do not protect you from rocks.
Another fun thing I’m hoping to check out this year is the Labor Day Street Fest at The Jazz Kitchen located in the heart of Broad Ripple. This is a free event where you can listen to some jazz music and enjoy food and beverages from The Jazz Kitchen and Yats. Side note…Yats happens to have some of the best New Orleans style food I’ve ever had.
You could also check out the Labor Day Extravaganza at Clay Terrace in Carmel for a day of Vintage, Artisanal, Antique, and Live Music and tickets are only $5!
Lastly, who doesn’t love a good ole fashioned cook out? If staying inside is your thing, be sure to check out Air-Tans Pinterest page for some great ideas to make your Labor Day party one to remember. Its full of fun food ideas, cute decorations, and the best outfit inspirations.
