During the winter I have clients asking me why their Air-Tan doesn’t last as long compared to an Air-Tan in warmer weather. Most of the time it is because they have dry skin and are not moisturizing enough. I always get very dry skin in the winter and have since I was young. To keep your long lasting tan, you need to moisturize at least once a day after your shower. If your skin gets pretty dry in the winter I would moisturize more often. Moisturizing is one of the best things you can do for your tan because the tan is only applied to the top layer of your skin. So moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! We do offer a our Tan Extender too, which is a lotion that has a small amount of self tanner in it to lengthen the life of your tan. Our Organic and Organic + solutions both have more moisturizers in them and last longer.
Another tricky aspect of getting an Air-Tan is what to wear. We always suggest dark loose fitting clothing. In the winter sweat pants and a sweatshirt work great. What should you wear on your feet? No one wants to wear flip flops in the cold and if it is snowing we definitely don’t suggest it! When it is cold outside or raining I wear a loose fitting shoe or boot and normally don’t wear socks. If you want to wear socks pick a pair that are loose. Anything too tight can rub the tan and make it not develop as evenly. If I wear socks I pick one of my fuzzy pairs because of the fit. Rain or snow boots work great in the winter to keep your feet safe from getting wet and are generally loose fitting.
