If you are anything like me, your skin is already becoming dry and itchy from the sudden cool weather. I’m not sure what happened to Fall, but it seems like we switched from summer weather directly to the winter cold. Dry skin is the enemy to keeping an Air-Tan looking fresh for as long as possible, so how can we combat the inevitable winter skin? Or better yet, prevent it before it even starts!
First, as soon as it starts to get cooler, I like to switch to a thicker, heavy-duty lotion. I personally like to use Eucerin Skin Calming lotion after my morning shower because it contains oatmeal which is very soothing to my skin. If I’m trying to keep my tan on longer than a week, I’ll apply our Air-Tan Extender in the evening as well.
I know we talk a lot about exfoliating and how it’s key for the most even application, but exfoliating becomes even more important in the winter. If your skin is so dry that its flaky, your tan just won’t last as long, so it’s best to exfoliate all the dead skin off before your appointment. If you need any help on exfoliation, our technicians can give you plenty of tips and product suggestions.
Lastly, using a humidifier makes a huge difference. My lips used to dry out in the winter so bad that they hurt, and once I got a humidifier, it changed everything! Running the heat in my apartment is so drying to not only my skin, but my sinuses as well. The humidifier adds moisture back into the air that’s lost during the cold months.
