It’s just the beginning of December, and I’ve started feeling the effects of the cold temperature on my skin. As soon as I turned the heat on at home, my skin became dry and itchy. I had to get it under control fast, or it was going to be a long winter! I’ll let you in on a few on my favorite tips to keep my winter skin hydrated and glowing.
This is so important to do. If you just put lotion on over dry, flaky skin, it will still be there when the lotion wears off. Exfoliating removes the dry skin before you moisturize. We have some great products at Air-Tan if you need some help in this category.
*Important reminder: don’t exfoliate after a fresh Air-Tan! It won’t last as long.
The winter is the time to bust out the super-hydrating lotions and creams. I like to put on a light layer of coconut oil before bed, and this Aveeno lotion in the morning. It contains oatmeal to help calm dry skin.
- Change up your face moisturizer
Not only do I switch my body lotion in the winter, I also change what I use on my face. In the summer, I use a lightweight moisturizer, but in the winter I need something much more hydrating. I love this Clinique moisturizer because it is still oil-free but can pack a punch when your face is feeling parched.
- Use a humifier
This is the best tip I have. I use one year round, but in the winter, I turn it full blast when I sleep. Not only will this help your skin, but it will also help you breathe better while sleeping. Ever wake up with a stuffy nose or sore throat from the dry air? A humidifer has completely solved that problem for me.
