May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month! You or someone that you know has probably either experienced skin cancer or knows someone who has. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of a lifetime.
More than 419,000 cases of skin cancer in the US each year are linked to indoor tanning, including about 245,000 basal cell carcinomas, 168,000 squamous cell carcinomas, and 6,200 melanomas. Kind of scary, right? Just one indoor tanning session can increase your risk for skin cancer! I am so glad that laws are being passed to prohibit the use of tanning beds to young girls. Hopefully soon, no one will be able to use them!
A lot of clients at Air-Tan now come here because they have had skin cancer or a skin cancer scare. I had a client last week who was currently going through treatments to get her skin cancer removed. She said that she was a huge tanning bed person when she was younger and that is why she is having problems now. SO many clients come in to Air-Tan and say that they use the tanning bed AND us. That is so unnecessary! We can make you as light or as dark as you want in just one, cancer-free session!! Please help us in passing along the word during Skin Cancer Awareness month!
