I recently came across a blog from an MD stating that red wine AND chocolate both are rich in antioxidants, which most of you know combat aging! Who doesn’t love looking younger? I thought this is a perfect time to share this info since it’s not too far past Valentine’s day and maybe you have some wine or chocolate left over from your sweetie. This news can help you feel less guilty about a little indulging. However, the blog does say that you should just stick to one glass of red wine to reap the benefits of the anti-aging. After one glass (doesn’t matter what type of red), it doesn’t add any extra anti-oxidants to your body and you’re just consuming extra calories. Self magazine wrote about the benefits of red wine and how some companies are using red wine as an additive in skin care products.
Chocolate is good for you if it is of the dark variety and if it is of higher quality. Dark chocolate is richer in antioxidants than other kinds. Of course, this must be enjoyed in moderation, too. A CNN article says that researchers did a test with chocolate in women and found that women who had a little bit of chocolate every day showed improved appearance of skin. The chocolate improves blood flow and also helps in protecting your skin from dangerous UV rays.
Ok, so the whole moderation thing can be tricky, but at least this may assuage a little bit of your guilt for overindulging in the Valentine’s treats. If you’re feeling a few pounds heavier, an Air-Tan can help it look like you never ate that box of chocolates in one sitting… 🙂 Come see us in Broad Ripple or our newly opened Fishers location for a confidence boost in 15 minutes or less!
