One of my new clients told me last night that her doctor told her 90% of facial aging is a direct result of the sun. Despite the industry I work in, I had never heard that statistic before. So I did a bit of research and it seems to be a pretty solid, well-known fact. Of course I know limiting UVA & UVB exposure will help with premature aging. But I had no idea it was 90% responsible!
To preserve your young, firm skin, simply avoid sun damage. The #1 cause for premature aging is sun damage. Use sunblock when outdoors. The simplest way to make sure you are protected is to buy a facial moisturizer with SPF already in it. Make it a habit of moisturizing every morning and you’ll be set to go. Avoid sun exposure during peak hours (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.). Don’t let winter’s chilly temps fool you, either! Sun protection is equally important on foggy days, snowy days, and even when you are just driving in your car with the windows up.
For your nighttime facial cleaning regimen, include exfoliation (salicylic and alpha hydroxy acids), hydration (hyaluronic acid), rejuvenation (retinol-based compounds) and nutrition (amino acids, vitamin C and E).
