While self tanning products have come a very long way since they first came out in the 1960’s, there is still a difference in over the counter creams and sprays and professional based solutions. All of these products contain a certain level of DHA (dihydroxyacetone). DHA is not a dye, stain or paint, but causes a chemical reaction with amino acids in the dead layer on the skin surface. Personally I had a strong hate for self tanning products and swore I would never use them again. That is until one day I was sprayed by Air-Tan equipment and solution.
Why is Air-Tan different?
Air-Tan is so different then over the counter creams, lotions, foams or spray bottles is for the most part the form in which these products come in. Meaning a cream, foam, lotion, or even a spray bottle can not be applied like our equipment can apply these products. Air-Tans equipment is spraying in a finely tuned fine mist to prevent over saturation or clumping in any area. Not to mention your hands never have to even get close to the self tanner so they can stay very natural looking. Our equipment is also blowing air at the same time, drying you as we apply.
Air-Tan is different than a booth applied application because a machine just can not do what a human can do. Yes, I do understand that standing in front of another person next to naked is not the most comfortable situation in the world. I still remember the first time I was sprayed and how scared I was. Please realize that the highly trained technicians at Air-Tan are focused on the application of your tan, making the tan even and creating the color you are looking for that will look best on your skin tone. There is not a machine in the world that can do this kind of customization.
Our solution is specially tested and formulated just for our salon. It has just the right balance of DHA and other ingredients like Citrus Oils and Aloes to moisturize the skin. Self tanning products can tend to dry out the skin so having these other ingredients are key to making sure the tan looks natural for longer. Due to these moisturizing ingredients it makes more of a sticky and tacky feeling after one is sprayed, but it is very necessary to the outcome of the final tan.
Spray tans can have a bad reputation of turning people orange (Oompa Loompa) and that is because they have not been applied correctly, using a bad solution or product, or just simply over abuse of the product. We have a philosophy of making sure no one can tell that our clients do not have a natural tan. We don’t want anyone to look FAKE.
