Okay, this article from Cosmopolitan is about a year old, but someone just shared it with me, and I couldn’t help but share it will all of you. It is a true wake up call that a tanning bed is not worth your life. I am interested to see what changes the FDA makes within the tanning industry over the next few years. I never realized how many people really do have skin cancer scares – I see them with my own two eyes every single day at Air-Tan. In fact, in the midst of writing this blog post, I just sprayed a client. She had two bandaids on her. One on her back and one on her stomach. She told me they were melanoma that she just had removed yesterday.
To read the article about 26- year old Glenna Kohl, follow this link. She used a tanning bed about once a week since she was a teenager, detected a lump at the age of 22, battled for the next 4 years,
and at 26- she died from melanoma. Reading this really hit home with me because I started using a tanning bed 1-3 times a week when I was 14. I didn’t stop until the day I started my job at Air-Tan. I’m happy to say I have been tanning UV free for 2 years now, however, after reading this, I’ve already made an appointment with a dermatologst to get checked. Using a tanning bed even one time before the age of 30 increases your chances of melanoma (the deadliest form of skin cancer) by 75%.
75%!!!!! That is not a risk I am willing to take…ever again!!! I think I will stick with my Air-Tan…forever and ever. :)
