  1. Where to be on N-Y-E

    Where to be on NYE

Most of the clients I’ve sprayed the past couple of weeks don’t have their New Year’s Eve plans finalized yet.  Here are some of the biggest parties that are going on in Indy this year:

    • Ciroc the New Year Celebration–This party is on the top floor of the Chase Tower downtown on the Circle.  Tickets are a little pricey at $125 per person, but this includes your cover, appetizers, champagne toast, several live DJs, and premium top shelf open bar all night!  This venue has a 360-degree view of the city, and if you go to this party, you can book a room at the Hilton Garden Inn for only $99.
    • New Year’s Eve Rock ‘n’ Roll Ball–This one takes place at the Hyatt Regency on different levels of the hotel.  There are a lot of live acts, mostly DJs and rock bands.  General admission is only $39, and there is a a cash bar.  There are a variety of different packages you can get that include combinations of VIP areas, dinner, and rooms.  The coolest part of the party–20,000 balloons dropping at midnight!!
    • New Year Year’s Eve 2011 at the Rathskeller–Tickets are $50 in advance or $55 at the door.  This includes appetizers, live entertainment, and a champagne toast.  The main act, Zanna Doo, starts at 9:00.

Do you know of any other cool events going on around town?

  2. Holiday Beauty Gift Ideas

December 20, 2011 by Katelyn Fry

Looking for some new beauty essentials this holiday season? Need a stocking stuffer for your best friend? I was! I found lots of things just looking online, but here are my favorites:

OPI: Gettin’ Miss Piggy With It

I love shimmery reds and burgundy during the winter, but this takes shimmery and red to a whole new level and I am in LOVE! This sparkly fun shade will definitely be a hit this season and it’s from the new OPI Muppets line…OPI never ceases to amaze me with their ever evolving lines. I am used to expecting the unexpected from OPI, but never thought they would have Muppets polish!

    Ambre Essence

These locally made oils are 100% pure ingredients and can be worn by men or women. These earthy scents work with your own body chemistry and smell a little different on everybody. I have the roll-on and wear it every day and every day I receive at least one compliment. I have been in love with Day 1 and really hope Santa brings me some body creme to add to my collection. :) Become a fan of their Facebook page for holiday deals now through Christmas!

    Air-Tan Bling-Bling Spray

These fun sparkly body sprays (unscented) add a little shimmer to hair, skin, and body and come in 5 colors – gold, bronze, red, silver, and blue. I took both the gold and bronze with me to Cabo recently, and sprayed liberally on hair and body. Everyone was so complimentary of my shimmery sun-kissed skin. I love the red one in my brown hair during the holidays. It adds a subtle shimmer without being chunky or tacky.

    Clarisonic Skin Brush

This gentle electronic skin exfoliator works wonders on face, neck – your whole body! I have not used one, but I hear about them almost daily from clients who RAVE about how much better their skin looks and feels after just the first use. It is definitely at the top of my Christmas list this year!

  4. Burning Questions Answered

December 19, 2011 by Emily Ross

    1.      Since it’s winter, what shoes should I wear?

    What NOT to wear

Ideally, flip flops are the best option, but with winter comes wet weather.  Remember:  You cannot get wet for 8 hours after you get your tan.  This includes your feet, and getting wet in the rain still counts as getting wet!  Please use your best judgment on what type of shoes to wear home from your appointment.  If the weather is inclement, any loose shoe is better than risking your feet getting wet while wearing a sandal!  I recommend something like a clog or a pair of sneakers that you can loosen up the laces so it’s not very tight.  Something else to keep in mind:  Umbrellas come in handy for the rain and snow!

    2.      Isn’t there something you can do to warm it up?

If only I had a nickel for every time I’ve heard this one…Unfortunately, we can’t warm up the spray.  Our solution has sugar in it and it can not be too hot or too cold when applied, or it will not adhere to your skin.  Unfortunately that’s the price of beauty ;-)

    3.      What do guys wear when they get sprayed?

We require everyone to wear bottoms during their session.  We do provide disposable bottoms, but those are only for women.  We ask that guys bring in their own bottoms.  They can wear boxers, briefs, or any type of shorts.  My recommendation is the bottoms are black or navy so that the spray won’t show up on it.

  5. Inexpensive Party Ideas

December 18, 2011 by Katelyn Fry

    ‘Tis the season for parties!
Even if you don’t have any holiday parties on your agenda, wintertime is one of my favorite time to throw parties – but it’s also the hardest time to do anything costly- with holiday gifts cutting into my cash flow! I also don’t do well venturing out into the chilly weather to restaurants and clubs I would normally go to in warm weather, so I usually opt for low-key nights at home with friends. One of my favorite things to do is to plan parties..but sometimes you need to think outside of the box in order to save money, yet still have a great party.

Need some clever party ideas? Don’t worry! I got ya covered!

    1. Pinterest Party!
Never heard of Pinterest? It’s a virtual pinboard website that allows your to organize all of your ideas that you find on the Internet. Basically you log on, click on a category – my favorite is Food & Drink, browse all the pictures of food & drink, click on ones you like – It will tell you how to create that item. If you want to keep it on your own personal pinboard, you just “pin” it to your pinboard. It is kept there forever for your own future reference.  Pinterest isn’t just for cooking though – it has EVERYTHING! I like pinning wedding ideas, makeup &hair tutorials,  and do-it-yourself home projects – just to name a few. Pinterest is exclusively by invite only. If you have a friend on Pinterest, tell him or her to invite you. Or email me at katelyn@air-tan and I will invite you!

Anyway, back to the Pinterest Party! My girlfriends and I actually had one a few weeks ago! Everyone picked a different recipe for food or drink they found on Pinterest. We all met to enjoy each others’ creations and we all brought a bottle of wine to go with. One of the girls made these festive Santa Hat Brownies! How cute!

    2. Clothing Exchange Party!
This party idea is one that my sorority sisters and I have been doing since our Freshman year of college. Everyone cleans out their closet – but instead of taking your things to Goodwill, gather them in a bag (clothes, shoes, jewelry, etc.) and take them to the party! Then, on the count of 3 everyone dumps their bag (this is the part where my friends get crazy), and grabs what they want! After we have our pile of things that we grabbed, then we make trades if we want. (Like I said, my friends get kind of crazy, so the whole “grabbing” part takes only about 5 minutes…Often times you don’t even know what size you grabbed.) It’s a great way to get some new clothes without spending a dime – and cut back on the loads you have to take to Goodwill. Of course, you could do it in a much more organized fashion without people jumping over others to grab stuff – but what’s the fun in that?

    3. Air-Tan party!
Host an Air-Tan party at your house! It’s a great idea for girls’ nights, night before wedding, or just something different to do. Don’t worry – we won’t even make a mess! We have portable equipment, pop-up tents, and all the same things (barrier cream, footies, disposable thongs, etc.) we would have if you came into the salon. There is a 5 person minimum. There is also a price cut if you host at least 17 people! Best thing about our at-home parties? There is no cost for the party, just for each tan. For more information, you can email me at katelyn@air-tan.com.

    Happy Party Planning!

  6. How to Avoid Holiday Weight Gain

December 12, 2011 by Katelyn Fry

How to avoid Holiday Weight Gain

With the holidays upon us, it is easy to gain a few pounds going to holiday parties and family get togethers. Personally, nothing tastes better in chilly winter weather than something heavy, warm, and loaded with carbs. It’s easy to lose track of being healthy when there are holiday snacks everywhere and we are hidden under the bulk of warm, comfy clothes. Hopefully these few tips will help you stay on track!\

    1. Don’t strive on losing weight during the holidays – save yourself the stress and just strive to keep your weight the same. Go back to your weight loss goal in the new year!

    2. Even though you shouldn’t strive to lose any pounds, do make sure you are still exercising. During the holidays, when you are consuming more junk, up your work out. Usually work out for 45 minutes a day? Try for an hour. Usually work out 2 days a week? Try 3 or 4 during the holidays.

    3. Limit yourself to one cookie or slice of pie a day. Cookies, pies, and cake are loaded with sugar, carbohydrates, and starch. You can still indulge in these, but don’t go overboard.

    4. Never party hungry! Before you head to holiday parties, eat a light meal first. This will help you from binging on fattening party snacks.

    5. Avoid creamy sauces and dips. Eat the veggies, but not the high fat creamy dip they are sitting next to. Substitute eggnog for a light beer or a glass of wine.

    6. Indulge in the good stuff! Having turkey for holiday meals? White meat turkey is perfect! Just avoid the gravy.

    7. Just can’t do it? Well, if all else fails, get your AIR-TAN and (look like you) lose 10 pounds instantly!!!
