    November 27, 2011 by Air-Tan

Katelyn and I are doing a blog series of interviews of some of our fave, fab clients who are movers and shakers in the Broad Ripple area.  Up first is Carly Swift, who is co-owner (along with her twin sister, Mandy Selke, another wonderful client) of Just Pop In!  http://www.justpopinonline.com/ These girls are so fun to be around, and are just like little rays of sunshine!  They always brighten our day when they stop in for a tan.  They have locations in Broad Ripple and at the airport, and if you haven’t tried their treats yet, you are SERIOUSLY missing out!  Soooo good!!

  2. The Bad Spray Tan Chronicles

November 21, 2011 by Emily Ross

Please check out some terrrrrible spray tan pics that I have come across:

Kendall Jenner–This is Kim Kardashian’s little sister.  It looks like her head does not even belong on her body.

Courtney Stodden–You may have seen this seventeen year-old girl in the celebrity news for getting married when she was sixteen…to a guy who was FIFTY ONE.  This tan is bad on SO many levels.  Way white face.  White under the boobs.  Super brown painted on abs.  Splotchy legs and ankles.  WTF?

Random girl–Orange!!!!  Who let her go out of the house like this?!  If I was looking this bad, I would hope my friends would try and do something to stop it!

  3. True or False: You can “build” a spray tan.

November 16, 2011 by Emily Ross

Is it OK if I still have some leftover tan from last time?

Exfoliating is important so you don't turn out looking like this!

No.  One very important rule to remember is that you NEVER want to layer or “build” a spray tan.  The idea is similar to that of chipped nail polish.  You would never paint over chipped nail polish and get a smooth, even coat, right?  Same is true with air tanning.  You want to be sure to completely exfoliate all of your old tan off before getting sprayed again.  If you don’t, you will more than likely turn out uneven and/or orange!  One of the great aspects of an Air-Tan is that all you need is one 15-minute session to get as little or as much color as you need.

Do I have to take my makeup off?

No, the spray tan will go through your makeup and still tan your face.  One thing to keep in mind is that if you have an appointment later in the day, you won’t be able to wash it off before you go bed since you have to wait eight hours before getting wet.

Will this stain my clothing or sheets?

Maybe.  We always recommend that you wear dark-colored (black, brown, navy) clothing, so that any bronzer that does rub off won’t show.  It washes out of cottons easily, but materials such as nylons, silk, and elastic can stain.  If you are wearing your own bottoms or top while getting sprayed, make sure they are dark or old ones you don’t care about anymore.

What happens if this gets in my hair?

The solution is water soluble, so it will just wash out with your first shower.  My hair has been super duper blonde for the last few months and even with spending the majority of my days in the spray room, my hair is still blonde as ever!

  4. Hair Care Tips for Chilly Weather

November 14, 2011 by Katelyn Fry

It’s still surprisingly warm in Indiana, but we all know what lies just ahead of us…A chilly winter! It’s just a matter of time before it hits us. Before the cold hits, get prepared to protect your hair! Cold temperatures affect our locks, causing them to deteriorate in the winter months. Want a few tips to keep your hair shiny, moisturized, and fab throughout the winter? Here they are!

    • Even if you’re hair is not damaged, use shampoo and conditioner designed for damaged hair during frosty months.
    • To encourage follicle growth and to protect your roots, apply pure castor oil or a conditioner containing castor oil overnight.
    • You’ve probably heard this before, but don’t overuse your blowdryer. If you do have to use it, use on “cool” or on the lowest setting.
    • Color-treated hair gets dull in chilly temperatures. It is especially important to moisturize colored hair in the winter.
    • You’ve probably heard this before too. Try not to wash daily. I find this especially hard to do, because I feel like my hair never straightens as nicely on the 2nd day. I like to spray a bit of dry shampoo on my roots, then use a curling iron to create just a few soft curls on the 2nd day. The extra oil in my hair keeps my curls all day long and the curls give my hair the bit of oompf it needs on that 2nd day when it would otherwise look a bit flat.

What’s your favorite winter-time hair care strategy?
