    I’m Engaged … Now What?

With so many wedding reception venues in and around Indianapolis, I can only imagine, it must be nearly impossible to choose just one. Being in a sorority in college and being the age that I am (26), I am invited to more and more weddings every summer it seems. Here is a list of my top choices for venues in and around the city for every price point. Whether you are looking for an inexpensive intimate affair or a 400-person bash, I hope this list will help you with at least starting your venue search. It was very hard to narrow my list down to just 10, so please note my “honorable mentions” at the bottom of the list. J

  2. Spray Tans Don’t have to be Bad or Orange

    by Emily Ross

    Bad Spray Tans

I know that getting a spray tan can be a scary and intimidating thing, especially if it is your first time.  We’ve all seen how orange Snooki and Lindsay have been…and who could forget the Friends episode when Ross has his spray tan fiasco?

Here are a couple tips from me on how to ensure that you will not turn orange and that you will be even:

    1. Exfoliate!  Make sure that you scrub down your whole body with an exfoliating scrub and using a washcloth followed by using a dry towel afterwards is the best way I’ve found to exfoliate.  Have you tried our Air-Tan Body Scrub?  Let me tell you, it works wonders!  Way better than regular soap.  Exfoliating is especially important if you have any old self-tanner or spray tan left on your skin.  If there is left-over product on you, you can turn out splotchy and/or orange!
    2. Stick with a color level that isn’t too dark for your skin tone.  If you do not tan well in the sun, the darker levels have the potential to make you look unnatural or orange.  Ask your technician for a suggestion if you are having trouble deciding what level is best for you.

Take a look at some awesomely bad pictures I found:

Lindsay Lohan—What’s up with her tan ’stache?

Clubbin dude—WTF?  He went a little overboard!!

Donald Trump—With all that money, you’d think he could get a

    better self-tanner.

    Clubbin girl—One word:  Yikes.

    Date Night in Indy

    • Indianapolis Indians game

    • Indians games are an inexpensive and fun way to enjoy the warm summer weather.  Every Monday that there is a home game, there is the “Monday Dollar Menu” and hot dogs, Cracker Jack, popcorn, chips and peanuts are only $1!  Also, after every Friday home game, there are fireworks.  If you get tickets for the lawn, you are allowed to bring in your own food and drinks (with the exception of alcohol).  Here is a link to their schedule. • Indianapolis Museum of Art

    • Summer Nights Film Series—In the summers, the IMA plays movies outside in their amphitheater.  You can bring your own picnic to these events, also!  A couple of ones I’m looking forward to is the screening of Top Gun and a Grease sing-a-long!  http://www.imamuseum.org/programs/films

  4. Broadripple Workouts You’ll LOVE!

    Broadripple Workouts You’ll LOVE!

So I know what you are thinking by reading the title of this blog post. Who really loves any workout? I certainly did not love any of mine, until I discovered a few gems here in Broad Ripple. Here are a few of my favorite places to get a great workout in the area.

My third favorite place to get my workout in is on the Monon. Most of us have heard of it, but maybe you haven’t been on it yet. With endpoints at 10th street downtown and at 161st Street in Westfield, it’s hard to miss! There all all sorts of connections from different trails and there are several stops with bathrooms and water fountains. Visit the Monon’s website to get even more details. Do what you like best – run, walk, bike, rollerblade, skateboard, or my personal favorite – wog (walk/jog) your way to your goal endpoint. As the trail goes through downtown, Broad Ripple, Carmel and Westfield, there’s undoubtedly great stops and lots to look at along the way. The Monon is just one of the many reasons Indianapolis is leading the nation to a greener way as a very bike-friendly city.

My second favorite place to get my workout in is at Studio 49 Fitness. This new gym located at 49th and Pennsylvania offers TRX suspension training, PowerPlate training, and group classes. Developed by a Marine, TRX suspension training, builds strength, balance, flexibility, and core stability. The best part is, anyone can do it no matter your fitness goal or if  you are a man or a woman. With over 30 years of combined experience, Mark and Christy, will get you looking toned and fit in no time! The best part about this gym is that it doesn’t look or smell like one. Also, as of July 1, all packages are transferable and never expire!

My absolute favorite place to get my workout in is just a couple doors down at The Yoga Center of Indiana. I was so skeptical about yoga until a friend urged me to try the “new member” package, which is $27 for 2 weeks of unlimited classes. I was so nervous because I have never been flexible and I didn’t really know what yoga was about. I have never even been able to touch my toes. The first thing I learned was that you don’t have to be flexible to learn yoga, but your flexibility greatly improves as you keep practicing. The Yoga Center only does “hot yoga” – which helps you actually feel more flexible toward the end of the class as your body warms. Mat and towel rental are waived with your first class, but don’t forget to bring water as it really is HOT yoga! I have tried every kind of workout you can imagine, and hot yoga gets me working just as hard as running miles, yet calms me and puts me in a peaceful frame of mind for my entire day. The best thing about this place is there are two locations (I love them both!) and you can use your package at either one.

  5. Few FAQ’s about Air-Tan

    by Emily Ross

    Air-Tan Frequently Asked Questions

Can I do one level on my body but a different level on my face?

Totally!  One of the reasons why Air-Tan is so great is because it is so customizable.  Since it is a technician spraying and not a machine, your tan can be customized so easily!  There are lots of women who like to go a shade darker on their legs.  There are also plenty that like getting their faces a touch lighter.  Just let your technician know your specification before she begins spraying you!

Can I request a certain technician?

Yes, it’s just the same as a hair salon would be.  Make sure you request your preferred technician while scheduling your appointment. NOTE: you do not have to talk to that technician to make an appointment with her.

Do I have to make an appointment?

No, but since the summer is our busy season, it is best to make an appointment, so we can make sure we can get to you at the time you would like to get in.

Can I shower earlier than 8 hours?

The self tanning product in our solution (DHA) takes about 3 to 6 hours to process and turn the top layers of your skin tan.  Everyone’s skin and body chemistry is different, so there isn’t a hard and fast rule to when your skin is completely done processing.  If you shower or sweat before the 8 hours is over, you may lose some of your color and there is no way of telling how much color will get washed away.  When scheduling your appointment, be sure to keep the 8 hour time frame in mind.

  6. Plastic Surgery on the Decline, really ?

July 13, 2011 by Katelyn Fry

    Plastic Surgery…What do you think?

Plastic surgery isn’t just for celebrities anymore. More and more men and women are looking to plastic surgery for a quick fix. The number of procedures available is incredible with everything from the most popular breast augmentation to arm lifts and fat grafting. It’s no surprise it seems everybody wants something done, and why wouldn’t they given how obsessed we are with celebrity culture and looking like our favorite celebrities? We all want to look our best, but how popular is plastic surgery really?

The number of procedures has steadily been decreasing each year – down from 117,010,031 in 2007. In 2009, a total of 9,993,711 total procedures were done on American men and women. Of these, over 8.5 million were non-surgical – think Botox and microderm abrasians. These have seen a HUGE jump over the last 3 years. With face lifts and fat grafting (fat is harvested from the abdomen or neck and used on facial wrinkles, brows, etc.) ranging anywhere from $2700-$10,500 locally, it’s no surprise why non-surgical procedures have grown in popularity. There is less recovery time – with a face lift, it is recommended to take 14 days off work and even after those two weeks, swelling and bruising can still be apparent. Plastic surgery also doesn’t last forever and upkeep is recommended within a few years. With Botox or other non-surgical procedures, one can return to their daily lives right away.

ClarityMD in Carmel is just one of many medical spas in the area who specialize in these procedures. Treat yourself to a Laser Genesis treatment which helps with premature signs of aging and sun damage or a LimeLight Facial which targets skin imperfections such as brown spots and sun damage.

Of course, Air-Tan knows there is a healthier way to help you feel good and look good without causing damage to your skin. Whatever the case and whatever you choose to do, remember your skin is your largest organ and one of your most important organs of your body. You only get one skin so protect it with sunscreen and love to keep it looking good all LIFE-long!
