  1. Auto Sprayers are for Cars, Not Humans -YouTube Tuesday

Unlike the woman from my last YouTube Tuesday blog, this lady at least has a sense of humor about her terrible spray tan. Her color doesn’t look completely awful, although she should have gone with a lighter shade. At Air-Tan, we don’t have a “deep” color level option. Our color levels go from 1 to 5 and work with each person’s natural skin tone. I think this gal would have probably liked level 2 (which makes you look like you’ve spent a few days in the sun) or a level 3 at the darkest (a week at the beach). Our technicians are experts in spray tanning, and we can always advise you on what color level to choose.

What I’m most concerned about, which she doesn’t make mention of, is the blatantly obvious tan line going ALL the way around her forehead from wearing the hair net down too low. This is yet another reason why an Air-Tan is superior to a machine spray tan because our technicians will always make sure to pull the hairnet back off your face to make sure there are no embarrassing tan lines!

  2. Katelyn’s Air-Tan Love Story

January 27, 2011 by Katelyn Fry

    My Air-Tan Love Story…

I have lived in Indy and frequented Broad Ripple since my high school days. I had seen the pink Air-Tan sign a million times, but was never quite sure what it was all about and never stopped in. I was a tanning bed girl from the age of 14, until I got my first Air-Tan at the age of 25….Let’s just say, I will NEVER use a tanning bed again!

This is a picture of me about a month before I discovered Air-Tan….I was in my friend’s wedding and used the tanning bed 5 times prior to the wedding, including the day before.

I am on the far left (yes, I am playing air guitar with my bouquet). Please look at how ghostly I am!!! YIKES! Looking back, I realize I wasted 100 minutes laying in the bed and about $30 all together. I realize now, I could have spent the same the same amount of money, but saved 85 minutes if I would have come to Air-Tan. Also notice, the bride DID come to Air-Tan and how beautiful her glowing skin looks….

Fast forward 7 months after my (and subsequently all of my friends) discovery of Air-Tan. Five of the six of us in this picture got an Air-Tan ranging from levels 2 to 5. My tan was even ALL over, from head to toe and even in the brisk cold of November, we all have a fabulous glow. I truly LOVE my Air-Tan and will never go back to beds, burns, and pasty legs!!

  3. The Good, the Bad, and the Pasty: Golden Globes 2011

    January 23, 2011 by Air-Tan

    The Good

Carrie Underwood—Carrie always has a great, natural-looking glow to her. A little bit of color is necessary, especially when wearing light neutral tones, as she often does!

Claire Danes—Claire also looks fab with the ever-so-light spray tan. A little color goes a long way. This goes to show that you don’t have to look like you spent a week at the beach just because you get a spray tan.

    The Bad

Nancy O’Dell—Who told her that wearing an orangey-red dress looked good with her orange skin?

Emma Stone—I love Emma Stone in movies, and I really do like her as a blonde. BUT, she needs to find a new place to get sprayed! She isn’t even sprayed all that dark, and her tan is still orange! She needs to find a place that uses a solution with BROWN tones, like Air-Tan. J The combo of the blonde, orange tan, and peachy dress does not work for her.

    The Pasty

Tina Fey—All that shiny navy satin really washes a girl out. If Tina would have just spent fifteen minutes here at Air-Tan, she would not be looking so ghostly!

Sandra Bullock—With the heavy wall of brunette bangs, a flesh-toned dress, and pasty skin, Sandra is looking kinda drab. Not only that, she is looking down in the dumps. Not only does Air-Tan make you look good, it makes you FEEL good, too! Sandra needs a TAN and a SMILE!

  4. What is going on Around Town?

    by Air-Tan

    What’s Going on Around Town?

Just because it’s winter, you don’t have to be stuck at home with cabin fever all weekend! With the holidays already behind us, it’s easy to get stuck in the “winter blues”. Even though it’s frigid outside, there’s still plenty going on around town…Below are my top 3 picks for the rest of January.

    Pacers vs. Orlando Magic

    January 26 @ Conseco Fieldhouse

See the (steadily improving!!) Pacers take on Orlando in a rematch of a 4-point loss earlier this season. Tickets start at just $15 for the public and $10 for those with college I.D.

Disney on Ice: Toy Story 3

    Now – January 23 @ Conseco Fieldhouse

    Tickets start at just $10!

    RAIN: The Beatles Experience

    January 27 & 28 @ Clowe’s Memorial Hall

See the Broadway show that actually predates the hit, Beatlemania, from which RAIN’s cast was recruited. RAIN is the premier Beatles tribute band and has been together since the mid-1970’s. Student tickets start at $35 and $40 for the public.

  5. Frequently Asked Questions

    January 14, 2011 by Air-Tan

    FAQ

We have realized that there are many frequently asked questions about Air-Tan and the process of getting your Air-Tan. We wanted to address a few question every so often here on the blog! Below are some of the most popular ones:

    1. Do I have to wait to get dressed?

No, not at all. Although you feel really sticky and tacky, it’s totally fine to put on clothes right away. The reason that you can get dressed immediately is because the part of the solution that gives you the long-lasting color (called DHA) sets into your skin the second it gets sprayed on. The part that may get smudged when you’re putting on your clothes is just the bronzer. The bronzer is only there for the instant gratification and also so we can see what we are doing while we apply the tan. The bronzer will wash off of you during your first shower. For best results make sure you are wearing loose fitting clothing and shoes (like flip-flops) at least 2-4 hours after your tan is applied as excessive rubbing can effect the DHA from adhearing to the skin. Your enemy after you first get your Air-Tan on are to rub all over, sweat or get wet for an 8 hour period.

    2. Why am I so shiny and sticky?

The reason you look so shiny is because there are a lot of aloe and moisturizers in our solution. The solution over-moisturizes you, and your skin can’t soak all of it up right away, so it leaves you with that sticky feeling and shiny glow. The moisturizers are great for your skin, especially during the drier winter months!

    1. Where do I put the barrier cream?

There are THREE places to put the barrier cream:

    1. Rough part of your elbows
    2. Back wrinkly part of your heels
    3. Any unpainted finger nails or toe nails

Other salons or especially places that only spray using machines may have you put the cream other places, like knees, all over hands or feet, etc., but there is no need to do that here. Here at Air-Tan there is a person spraying you, and we take extra care to make the tricky spots like hands and feet look even and natural.

  6. New Year’s Resolutions – In One Year and Out the Other

    by Air-Tan

New Year’s Resolutions – In One Year and Out the Other

(Maybe not so) Shockingly, only eight percent of people actually keep their New Year’s Resolutions. Forty-five percent of people’s resolutions fall by the wayside by the end of January!

The number one New Year’s Resolution is to lose weight…If this is your New Year’s Resolution, I have a few tips to help you achieve it!

    5. Don’t be too vague with your resolution. Instead of vowing to just lose weight, set specific goals. This will help you keep your goal in sight and give you something definitive to work toward. The key to losing weight is not dieting or fads, but an overall lifestyle change. For example, instead of making your goal to lose 10 pounds, you could make your goal to work out three days a week.

    4. Get an Air-Tan! It instantly makes you feel better, look thinner, and serves as a good jump start to a better-looking you.

    3. Write down what you eat. Seeing what you are actually putting into your body each day can enlighten you to making healthier choices.

    2. Get a buddy! This has helped me personally more than anything else. Knowing that someone else is counting on you will make you more likely to actually go. It is alot easier to make excuses to not go if you don’t have someone else to hold you accountable.

    1. Change your eating habits! Drink plenty of water. Most of us don’t get enough water and we actually confuse thirst for hunger. Also, try to avoid late-night snacks, eat smaller portions, and eat more meals throughout the day. Most importantly, you don’t have to cut out what you love, you just have to love it in moderation!

Whatever your New Year’s Resolution is, we all hope you have a tan, happy, and healthy 2011!
