Before you tan:
Shower, shave and exfoliate your skin before you come in. It’s important to make sure that your skin is free of lotions, creams, and oils. This ensures there are no barriers between the Air-Tan solution and your skin.
During the tan:
All Air-Tanners are required to wear bottoms – either your own underwear or a one time use underwear we can provide. Each Air-Tan application takes 15 to 20 minutes. You’re in and out in less than half an hour. That’s something any person-on-the-go can pencil in.
After the tan:
Loose-fitting, darker clothing and shoes should be worn for leaving our salon to help prevent the smudging of the tanning solution. The longevity of an Air-Tan will vary from person to person based on lifestyle and skin. Daily moisturizing will help maintain your tan. For most people, an Air-Tan will last between 5 and 10 days.
Post-Salon:
Now before you jump in the pool or shower, or do a sweaty workout, we recommend you wait at least 8 hours. The Air-Tan solution requires this amount of time to react with the amino acids in the skin to produce the optimum results. Once you wait your 8 hours and jump in the shower, there will be no risk of staining your clothing or other cloth-based materials whatsoever. But be aware: Until your first shower, nylon, silk and elastics will be stained by the Air-Tan solution. There may be some residue from the Air-Tan solution left on other fabrics, but it will wash away in the laundry.
Let’s face it. Some of us are just tan-aholics. After an Air-Tan, you can definitely hit the beach or the pool, but remember the Air-Tan solution is not a replacement for sunscreen and has no SPF protection. Unlike the sun, an Air-Tan will not cause freckles but will usually make most blemishes and freckles appear less obvious, which is an added bonus for skin-conscious tanners. An Air-Tan also acts as a form of instant foundation, evening out your skin tone with its even application and consistent tone.
Sun-less Safety
Air-Tan is completely safe. It contains DHA (Dihydroxyacetone), which has been approved by the FDA for three decades and used in cosmetics intended to color the skin for almost 30 years. DHA is derived from glycerin (from a vegetable origin), which is commonly used as a cosmetic and food ingredient. Since DHA is not absorbed into the body, there is no possibility of toxicity. Most importantly, Air-Tan is safer than a sun-based tan or a tanning bed tan. There is no UV risk or damage to the skin (Ladies, that means less risk of wrinkles, something we can all smile about!)
