Recently, I wrote a blog about winter skin care tips and as I sit here today checking out my own hair, boy do I need to do a little research on winter HAIR care tips! Every time it starts to get frigid outside, my hair starts to change and become a hot mess! Like our skin, the winter weather can suck out all the moisture in our hair and cause your scalp to be itchy and flaky, and your hair to be super dry. Here are some key tips that I’ve found to help fight the elements:
Avoid Heating Appliances
Ugh that is so hard, right?? Dry hair can break easily, so try not to use a lot of heated appliances on your hair. You should limit the amount of heat you are putting on your hair so maybe blow dry your hair on a lower setting or wait a little to straighten your hair after blow drying.
Condition, Condition, Condition
Also, keeping your hair well conditioned in the winter months is key to having healthy hair. I love to put a lot of conditioner in my hair because it always feels and looks so healthy. I may even get a conditioning treatment done at the salon this winter because I already am noticing a huge change in my hair. I know there will be plenty of holiday parties to attend so I want my hair to be looking fly! And…Did you know that having well conditioned hair keeps the static away? Added bonus!
Change Up Your Hair Products
Scalp flakiness and itchiness is the worst for me. I always get the worst dandruff in the winter. So embarrassing! No one wants to walk around with scalp flakes all in their hair. Of course one product I always tend you use in the winter is Head and Shoulders, but I read that switching up your shampoos and conditioners periodically can help. Also, an easy treatment I found when I was doing some research is heating up coconut oil and mixing it with fresh lemon juice and applying it to your scalp for a few minutes. I might just have to try this tip and see if it really does work. Sounds like it would smell really good!
