We have finally reached the end of summer and are welcoming the changing of the leaves and cooler fall nights. I’m sure most of you have started packing away your sun hats and sunscreen until next summer because there is no use for these items anymore, right? NO! Even though the temperatures are dropping, and we are busting out our jackets and sweaters, we still need to keep the sunscreen handy. The sun is the strongest between 10am-4pm regardless if it’s fall or summer. I think a lot of people think since it’s cooler outside then they are safe from the UV rays. This is so not true. The Sun Safety Alliance states that, ” While UV exposure is the greatest in the summer (May—August) in the United States, it is important to remember that UV rays reach Earth every day and you should be sun safe year-round—including wintertime! Snow can reflect 85% to 90% of the sun’s UV rays!” That being said, keep your sunscreen on hand or find a product that has SPF already in it so you don’t have to put on your beachy, coconutty sunscreen.
We all take a healthy approach when it comes to the sun and want our clients to follow in our footsteps. It will lead to a happy, healthier life if we take the easy and neccessary steps to preventing sun damage or even worse MELANOMA! As I was researching for this blog, I came across a Cosmopolitan magazine where in 2006 they launched a Practice Safe Sun campaign to help get the word out about UV rays. I found this very inspirational and thought I would share their video: Practice Safe Sun
We at Air-Tan are strong adovacates for sun safety and always encourage our clients to wear their SPF and stay out of UV rays as much as possible. While an Air-Tan is the healthy way to get a tan, it doesn’t contain any SPF, so you still need to put on your SPF while you’re Air-Tanned. If you’re ready to ditch the rays and get an Air-Tan, please call Broadripple 317.254.TANS or Fishers 317.576.TANS salon to talk to one of our trained technicians.
