The bun is my go-to hairstyle at work. I also love it on weekends when I don’t feel like doing my hair or I just want my hair out of my face. People always ask me how I make my bun so perfect? I rotate among three different ways to make the perfect bun…Here are my secrets in case you don’t already know how to make one!
1. Sock Bun Tutorial – Click the link to watch this 2-minute video. This is what ladies do in the military to achieve that perfect, slicked-back bun. It is SUPER easy. I have never done the whole toothbrush thing, but may try it in the future if I feel like it is needed, but I can usually get it smooth the first time and can skip that step. How adorable is this girl in the video?
2. The Bun Maker – This is the exact same concept as the sock bun, but sold at drugstores and supermarkets for about $3. I have actually switched over from the sock to this bun maker because I kept losing socks and got tired to cutting up more and more socks. I also really love this one, because it is made of a plastic/mesh material and can get wet and still keep the shape of your bun. It is perfect for going to the pool or beach!
3. The Sockless Twisty Bun – I made this one up myself one day at work when I forgot my bun maker and had no extra socks on hand. This one doesn’t make a perfect donut-type bun, but more of an intricate-pretzel looking bun. It works well when you are in a pinch and only have a hair elastic and a few bobby pins on hand. Divide the ponytail in two sections and twist until you get to the bottom. I am sure you could split it in three sections and braid it, too. A couple of great things about this bun are that 1) You can do it while you hair is wet and 2) When you take it out (wet or dry), it gives your hair perfect beach waves.
